Save the date for the 2008 Interagency Minority Depository Institutions Conference, featuring Robert L. Johnson, Founder and Chairman, The RLJ Companies, as keynote speaker (July 16 - 18, 2008) (PDF).
Conference theme: Know Your Business, Grow Your Business
Agency principals from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Office of Thrift Supervision will speak on major issues within their respective agencies (with a focus on Minority Depository Institutions) and provide updates on pertinent bank related regulations and legislation.

The OCC’s African-American affinity group, CARE, spearheads national financial literacy initiative (PDF).
Reverend Dr. Floyd H. Flake serves as keynote speaker for the launch of the initiative.

The "Our Communities Count" Financial Education Outreach Initiative—sponsored by the Coalition of African American Regulatory Employees at the OCC—involves nearly 50 volunteers who are delivering financial education presentations to students in middle schools, high schools, and colleges across the country. This outreach effort targets students from 20 U.S. cities.

OCC Ombudsman Larry Hattix and Deputy Comptroller for Licensing Larry Beard will serve as speakers at the National Bankers Association's Annual Legislative Regulatory Conference in Washington, DC (April 1 - 3, 2008).

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Names Larry Hattix to be Ombudsman
The Office of the Ombudsman is organized around core principles of dispute resolution and customer service. The office seeks to ensure that national banks and customers of national banks receive fair and expeditious resolution of their complaints through two distinct processes within the office. The National Bank Appeals Process is designed to resolve disputes of national banks arising from the supervisory process. The Customer Assistance Group’s focus is to ensure that customers of national banks receive fair treatment resolving their complaints with national banks.

Comptroller of the Currency John C. Dugan announced that he has named Tim Long to be Senior Deputy Comptroller for Bank Supervision Policy, and that Jennifer Kelly will succeed Mr. Long as Senior Deputy Comptroller for Mid-Size and Community Bank Supervision.
