Statement of Comptroller Dugan on President Bush’s Announcement
Of Steps to Help American Families Keep Their Homes
WASHINGTON — Comptroller of the Currency John C. Dugan issued the following statement regarding President Bush's announcement this morning of steps to help homeowners having difficulty paying their mortgages and to ensure that the problems now disrupting the housing industry do not happen again:
President Bush announced an important initiative this morning that will help a great many American homeowners who are experiencing difficulties with their mortgages. We know that it is not enough simply to achieve homeownership. It is equally important that we do everything possible to help American families sustain homeownership, and I am looking forward to working with the Administration on this important program.
