OCC Operates Normally During a Funding-Lapse Government Shutdown

Because the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is funded through assessments on institutions it supervises—and not funded by congressional appropriations—OCC operations are not affected by a government shutdown from a lapse in budget authority. All bank supervisory and examination activities continue as scheduled. While a lapse in funding could have impact across other U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies and bureaus, OCC operations continue as normal under such circumstances.
